I will never discard you to seek after another

I am heartbroken imagining the final days of Solomon’s life.

In Solomon’s old age, they turned his heart to worship other gods instead of being completely faithful to the LORD his God, as his father, David, had been. Solomon worshiped Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Sidonians, and Molech, the detestable god of the Ammonites. In this way, Solomon did what was evil in the LORD’s sight; he refused to follow the LORD completely, as his father, David, had done.

On the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, he even built a pagan shrine for Chemosh, the detestable god of Moab, and another for Molech, the detestable god of the Ammonites. Solomon built such shrines for all his foreign wives to use for burning incense and sacrificing to their gods.

The LORD was very angry with Solomon, for his heart had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice. He had warned Solomon specifically about worshiping other gods, but Solomon did not listen to the LORD’s command. So now the LORD said to him, “Since you have not kept my covenant and have disobeyed my decrees, I will surely tear the kingdom away from you….” – 1Kings 11.4-11

How could one with the appearance of God in his life two times, with promises of wisdom, wealth, and long life – and actually seeing those promises come to pass – forsake all in doing the one thing You commanded not to do? What moved his heart from a walk with You to fall into a walk with other gods? Does a man’s heart and mind deteriorate with age such that evil begins to have an influence that had been set aside in youth? What hope is there that this same fate is not mine too?

How many appearances have you had with Me?

I have promised you that I would never depart, that I would always answer when you sought Me. Solomon relied on the desires of his heart given to him; he did not have what you do: My presence within your heart at all times. You have but to ask and I am there. I am with you in all things. We move together; our being is one.

There is no separation between us as there was between Solomon and Me. In this place together, therefore, if you seek after Me, after My heart, you will have all that he obtained – and more – for of our kingdom there is no end.

Would you seek after Wisdom, Prosperity, a continual Presence that would sustain your life eternally? In Me you have all of these, for I would withhold nothing from you. It is your perception of these things that may be clouding your understanding, and thus increasing your panic that I might turn against you.

Yet I have given all and would take away nothing from those who seek after My heart. Solomon sought things; you seek Me, and all things are given. Fear not that I would remove My presence from your life – for you are Mine. I have given all for you, and I will never discard you to seek after another.

I will have all that is Mine, and you are Mine.
